If you read the title, you might already have a question for us, but don’t worry, we already have an answer for you. No, we don’t think things can get weirder than this. We understand your confusion because we couldn’t believe our eyes either when we saw what happened on Facebook the other day.

Seriously, who would predict any kind of circumstances pushing Donia Samir Ghanem and Shahyn together?

So, where is the confusion coming from?

Even though it’s widely known that Donia Samir Ghanem and the late Dalal Abdelaziz are the faces of the detergent brand Oxi, we didn’t quite get Donia’s last ad, in which she sang a song with a melody that sounded TOO familiar—very suspicious!

The thing is, it sounded very similar to Siri, a track by the rapper Shahyn that was released in June of last year and became an instant big hit—the song’s lyrics play in our heads the minute someone says “it’s okay” (are we alright? Who knows!). It’s not like Shahyn needed the exposure, but that track drew in many different audiences with its huge popularity.

However, we also know that Donia Samir Ghanem makes music and has her good share of fans all over the Middle East. But singing a song with the same melody as the Egyptian rapper Shahyn?—Donia, we only have one question: Did you know about this?

What happened EXACTLY

via facebook

After the viral ad was uploaded on Facebook on Oxi’s main Facebook page, a Shahyn fan commented, wondering if the rapper himself knows this happened. That question roused a lot of suspicions, making us wonder if this ad could become the subject of a copyrights issue. That is, until Shahyn posted an Instagram Story of the Oxi ad, with a caption that said “baby, ‘adi it’s okay”, which is also the most popular lyric from the track.

This pushed Oxi to reply to the super-fan’s comment with a screenshot of Shahyn’s story while quoting that same lyric. So what does that mean? Well, probably, that the rapper knew all along but said nothing. It’s either that, or he’s just insanely forgiving. Either way, we love an understanding king!
