Green hair, clown makeup, facial scars, and a Glasgow smile. One of our childhood’s favourite fictional characters, from the finest of American comic books, is coming back to life, AGAIN! Yes, you read it right, the Joker movie’s trailer is finally released, and we’re excited already.
Joker will premiere at the 76th Venice International Film Festival on the 31st of August 2019. It is scheduled to be released in theatres by Warner Bros. pictures on the 4th of October 2019 in the US.
The film is a psychological thriller directed by Todd Phillips, starring Joaquin Phoenix for the lead role, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Marc Maron, Bill Camp, Shea Whigham, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, and Brian Tyree Henry. It is set in 1981, where Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian, is driven insane, turning his life into the life of crime and chaos in Gotham City.
The iconic fictional character appeared in Christopher Nolan’s superhero film The Dark Knight (2008) that was based on DC Comics characters. The Joker is a psychopathic character; he’s a criminal, a murderer, and has a sadistic sense of humour. He embodies themes of chaos, anarchy, and obsession. And because he’s been created so well, he ended up being everyone’s favourite villain. That leads us to a very important question; can anyone compare to Heath Ledger? Because ever since the legendary actor, who surpassed himself as the Joker, passed away, no one has. Anyway, we’ll leave that to after the premiere.
