While American sitcoms are always our go-to for laughs and chillaxing at home, there are also many Egyptian comic works that we need to add to the list! It’s been a few years since we had a good Egyptian sitcom, but we can always return to the old ones we used to watch. They not only provided us with great jokes, they also saw some of today’s megastars beginning their acting careers. So, enough teasing; let us remind you of these nostalgic sitcoms right now!

1-     Ragel We 6 Stat

It may not be the first Egyptian sitcom, but it was the most successful one for a good reason! This series revolved around Adel, Ashraf Abdelbaky’s character, and his comedic out-of-this-world adventures with his family, which consists of six women he lives with. The ladies are all different ages and come with a lot of drama that Adel has to deal with. We also got to see him losing his mind at his workplace, the Egyptian Bazaar, where he works with his cousin Ramzy, played by Sameh Hussein. The sitcom lasted for 10 seasons and provided us with 10 years worth of laughter!

2-     El-‘Eyada

Is Mahmoud El-Eissely’s intro song already playing in your head? We guessed so! This sitcom followed the stories of three fresh-grad doctors of different specialities as they rent an apartment and turn it into a clinic. The idea that there is a therapist, gynaecologist, and dentist working together in the same clinic is definitely unique and a gold mine for jokes! Starring Basma, Edward, Khaled Sarhan, and Mohammed Sharaf, El-’Eyada gave us a new level of comedy in 2008.

3-     Ahmed Etgwez Mona

A mini-sitcom that aired in 2006, Ahmed Falwkas and Engy El-Mokkadem’s Ahmed Etgwez Mona is about two newlyweds and the struggles they face in their new life! Both halves of the couple are affected by their family, and it’s not making their lives any easier. The idea behind this is to build a strong sense of family, though it’s portrayed in a humorous way. The series was successful but was cut short after two seasons.

4-     Shabab Online

In 2002, the first sitcom in Egypt and the MENA region was released. Shabab Online is an Egyptian replica of the hit American sitcom Friends that lasted for three successful seasons. It was the first time we saw Amir Karara on TV, and he was hilarious! The sitcom had an amazing cast, such as Ahmed El-Fishawy, and Leqaa’ El-Khamessy, as well as many interesting guest stars like Ahmed Mekky and Ola Roshdy.

5-     ‘Aiza Atgwez

‘Aiza Atgawez was a satirical gem that we couldn’t get enough of! Not only did we get to enjoy the presence of many guest stars being HILARIOUS, but we also learnt a great deal about Saloonat marriage problems. It goes without saying that the series is now an Egyptian classic that has become a never-ending supply of memes! The family drama was insanely relatable sometimes. Honestly, the brother/sister fights and nosy moments were on point. And most importantly, whose mother doesn’t occasionally turn into Soheer? No one’s safe!
