The first of AFCON’s matches, Egypt vs Zimbabwe, will be kickstarting the highly anticipated football event. As we get ready for it though, we forget a critical detail, how to get there without losing our cheering spirit. We know how stressful it can be to reach Cairo Stadium, especially on such a momentous occasion. But we’re here to the rescue. Here’s our AFCON transportation guide that will get you to the stadium or back home safe and sound.
The metro, you can take the metro from El Sadat station in Tahrir square. Get on the Shubra line and get off at El Atba station. There, switch to the third, Airport line, and get off at Stadium station. Another option that’s easier, but pricey, is taking a taxi. A taxi will drop you at the first gate after the land of exhibitions. Usually, a taxi should cost you somewhere between EGP 40 to 60 if you’re departing from Downtown.
You have either Uber or Careem, but if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, there are buses and scooters. Speaking of buses, there’s also SWVL, which is offering a great deal to all stadium-goers. The SWVL ride to the stadium will only cost you EGP 10.
If you’re going with the latter option, we advise you to book your rides in advance. Network coverage isn’t guaranteed at such a crowded spot, and you don’t want to end up getting stuck on the streets without a ride back home.
