Quick question: What’s the one neighbourhood in Egypt where you can find any cuisine you desire? The first place that popped up in your head was probably Maadi’s Degla neighbourhood. And it’s for a good reason—there are tons of international restaurants!

But do you know what Degla also has in spades? Lots and lots of boba tea shops. If you’ve ever wondered why all these boba places seem to open in the same neighbourhood, you’ve come to the right place because we’re wondering the same thing.

Here are the four reasons we’ve found so far:

Maadi’s Very Culturally Diverse

One of the things Maadi is known for is its cultural diversity, with many international residents living there and going about their day-to-day lives. With this cultural diversity comes a lot of restaurants, supermarkets, and cafes that specialise in international cuisine. So, it’s not surprising that boba tea truly shone in Maadi.

There Are Many Asian Restaurants and Supermarkets

Originating in Taiwan, boba tea is popular in most Asian countries, so it makes sense that tons of boba shops are in Maadi. Why? Well, because Maadi has many Asian residents, with some of them owning businesses and restaurants.

The Location Is Amazing (and Trendy)

One thing you can’t deny about Maadi is that it’s one of the most beautiful, peaceful districts in Cairo. With greenery everywhere and lots of space for unique places to set up shops, it’s no wonder that the district’s fanciest neighbourhood is trendy right now.

It’s A Gen Z Spot

If you’re ever in Maadi’s Degla neighbourhood, you’ll notice that it’s overrun by Gen Z-ers. They’re everywhere! With Gen Z-ers loving boba so much, it’s no wonder these many spots are where they hang out!
