Recently, global finance was in turmoil when the Evergreen cargo ship got stuck in the Suez Canal, blocking the pathway that represents a central pillar in international trade. It took several days to move the vessel and put it – and the world economy – back on track. If you've been wondering what was so difficult about moving the ship, well, we might have the answer.

CNN released a microbrowser game that lets you steer a ship through 4% of the Suez Canal. Working with Master Mariner Andy Winbow and Captain Yash Gupta, an overly-simplified simulation has been produced, working with only the ship's engine power and steering, and excluding several elements like other neighbouring ships, water depth, and weather conditions. Even then, people rarely got it on their first attempt.

Before jumping to conclusions, give the game a try and find out if you could have made a better captain here.
