What is more important than making Eid memorable for your whole family? Besides putting on new clothes and going out, there are many more ways to get ready for this year’s Eid holiday. If you don’t have any plans, staying home for Eid doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be any less enjoyable, so here are seven ways to make Eid at home more fun!

  1. Bake Your Own Kahk

We’ve all tried our luck with baking during quarantine last year. This Eid, we can put all our new skills into practice and bake kahk as a family activity. It’s a great way to get some family quality time, and the outcome will be delicious sugary cookies – It’s a win-win situation for all. You can find a lot of easy recipes online from YouTube or websites.

  1. Fun in the Sun

If you have a balcony or a garden, it’s time to get out that grill and start BBQing! The sun is out, and the weather is perfect for a family BBQ. If you don’t own a grill, you can easily find affordable ones online. Get stocked up on some proteins and make a day out of it – you can roast some marshmallows as well for a sweet camp-fire style dessert.

  1. Fun Zoom “Meetings”

Zoom doesn’t have to be all work and no fun. You can have a virtual gathering with family and friends online, share stories or even have Eid dinner together. Coming together as a family is what Eid is all about, after all.

  1. Secret Eidiya

The Arab edition of Secret Santa; how about introducing Secret Eidiya this year? You can buy the gifts beforehand. Then start the game during the Eid holidays. All names of the participants are placed in a box, and every participant draws out a person’s name. Afterwards, you buy a gift for that person! During Eid, each participant places the present on the table. The gifts are marked with the name of the receiver only and not the giver. So the recipient has to guess who the giver is.

  1. Go All Out on Decorations

Arts and crafts can be really fun for the whole family; it’s a great way to distress and tune in to your creativity. Make banners and paper ornaments yourself with simple materials you have at home. Then after you finish, the whole family can start decorating together as a family activity. Maybe you can get some of that string or snow spray to add a little mischievous fun to the equation.

  1. DIY Funsies

Do It Yourself is so popular now, aside from all the DIY fun projects you can find online. You can buy fun kits online: there is a Tie Dye Kit where you can dye your own T-shirts or try planting your own herbs and plants with The Planting Kit.

  1. Board Games and Puzzles

Stock up on board games from any petrol station around you; they’re usually full of them: Monopoly, Phase 10, Cluedo, and everything else in between. If you feel like a challenge, all the family can gather up to solve a 500/1000 piece puzzle. You can find a wide selection of games on Noon.
