Let’s go back to last year’s quarantine days, when we spent hours chatting on Houseparty, because that seemed the only thing that was as entertaining as TikTok. But by now, you might’ve heard the new and viral app, Clubhouse. Everyone was quick to throw in their two cents that this might be the new Houseparty - and we agree.

Clubhouse is an exclusive audio-chat iPhone app that is only accessible by invitation from a current user. The app was launched in April 2020 by Paul Davison and Rohan Seth of Alpha Exploration Co.

You might be asking yourself, “Why should I download this app then?” if it resembles Houseparty, just with conference calls, radio, and TED talks? Users can join almost any conversation, interview, discussion, and debate with anyone from around the world. As we’ve mentioned before, you can’t just download the app and use it; Clubhouse is an invite-only app, more like an elite (but virtual) country club, and everyone is allowed only two invites, which adds to the exclusivity.

If you do get into Clubhouse, they ask you multiple questions such as: What are your interests? Hobbies? Favourite artists, so you can be recommended clubs and people to follow or join to make your engagement entertaining and tailored to your preferences.

Once you enter a conversation or room, you can see the moderators and who started the conversation signalled with a green sign next to their profile picture. To begin speaking or engaging, you raise your hand on the hand emoji at the bottom of your screen to let the moderators know you want to have your say, and they let you know when it’s your turn.

In our opinion, we see Clubhouse as an opportunity to create connections with people who share the same interests as you. What are you waiting for? If you have an invite and an IOS device), download the app and give it a shot! As for Android owners, the app is currently still in development with no information about when it will be available.
