Gardening may just be the ultimate hobby if you think about it. It doesn’t take much time or money, but also summer is the greatest time to start a garden because the weather has already warmed up. Once you begin honing your green thumb, the benefits are numerous! Not only is gardening an exercise in peace, but it also helps to gently stretch your body while also giving you a sense of gratitude for the things we often take for granted, such as greenery and food.

Everyone who thinks of gardening as a difficult and time-consuming endeavour is mistaken. There are only a few easy guidelines you need to know to make your life a little greener.

Moreover, Mashtal is an online garden centre that can help you acquire gardening tools and supplies. Right now, though, let’s begin with a few tips!

1-     Experiment with patience

The most important thing to realise about gardening or plant ownership is that it is not an exact science. There is no single set of instructions that will ensure success. Plants are both beautiful and unpredictable biological phenomena. Various components influence their survival, and any particular mix of these elements can either allow a plant to grow or lead it to wilt and die.

As a result, if you want to keep plants, you must be willing to try even the most basic things. For example, if you set a plant in your home where there is minimal sunshine and observe that it is not doing well, this implies you should relocate it. The same applies to watering a plant, adding compost (organic matter), and deciding whether to place it indoors or outside. The objective is that you must constantly explore to find the best elemental combination for your plant.

2-     Get familiar with the tools

To start gardening, some basic tools are needed. Get secateurs to prune branches of trees and shrubs up to two centimetres thick. A gardening trowel is an absolute necessity for digging small holes, placing soil, and taking out the weeds. A rake can be used to remove any clumps and make the soil smooth in a new or existing bed before seeding and planting.

You cannot forget your gloves to avoid cutting your hands while you work, a bucket to transport or hold soil while you are moving plants or doing other work in the garden, and the sprayer. The last tool is essential, as it’s very useful for watering hanging plants, spraying fertilisers or pest control, and cleaning the leaves of your plants.

3-     Things to keep in mind for plant care

Before you begin your gardening adventure, there are some fundamental truths you should be aware of to properly care for your plants and stay on track. Healthy plants have lush green leaves and will bloom when the season is right. If a plant’s leaves are changing, it does not necessarily indicate that it is in poor health. It’s possible that the plant is just doing some spring cleaning to make way for new leaves. This is how plants develop, after all.

However, there are several other discolouration cases to be aware of because they may indicate that your plant is not getting enough sunlight or water. If there is discolouration on a cluster of apparently healthy leaves, this could mean that the plant is getting too much water. And drooping and drying leaves indicate that your plant needs additional water.

If the tips of a plant’s leaves change colour and appear burnt, this could indicate that the plant is receiving too much sunshine. Of course, there are exceptions to all these rules; plants can be quite fickle. And as we mentioned before, you need to have the will to experiment and be patient.

4-     Time to choose your plant!

House plants have the power to drastically modify any indoor environment. They produce a warm, friendly, and inviting ambience while also purifying the air in that location. They also create a positive vibe space. Choose plants that thrive in low-light environments and require little maintenance and attention, such as Peace Lily, Cactus, Bamboo Palm, Chinese Evergreen, and Rubber Tree.

All these plants need from their gardener is indirect light, watering around twice a week, and very little pruning. They are fantastic starter plants for those looking to start making their lives a little greener.
