El Gouna International Open Squash is back again in its 7th edition and will be starting on 20th of April until the 27th.
The competition is split to men’s and women’s draws. Mohamed el-Shorbagy and Nour El Sherbini will be there to fly the flag for Egypt, competing against other international and Egyptian squash players. The prize will be split equally between the two draws which is a total of $US 330,000.
Egypt’s best squash players are expected to heat up the matches as the qualifying rounds will be on the 18th and 19th of April, while the main matches will take place from the 20th until the 27th of April inside the famous glass court in El Gouna Marina.
Of course we all remember the story behind this amazing Squash competition and how it all started. If you missed it, let us tell you. The young and ambitious, Amr Mansy, originally a squash player and the founder of the event, dreamed of creating a squash competition in one of the best cities in Egypt, El Gouna.
Samih Sawiris then came into the picture, and supported Mansy’s plans to hold an international competition there. Sawiris believed in him and provided the money Mansy needed by sponsoring the competition, and changed it from an unknown tournament to the world squash competition everyone looks forward to watching.
If you happen to be in El Gouna, don’t miss Egypt’s best squash players, as they compete for an international award. The official page, El Gouna Squash, has announced recently that the entrance is for free too!
