As a month, Ramadan comes with a whole vibe. Every year, we always look forward to this holy month, and that’s not just because of the TV series and the family gatherings. It’s also because of one of the month’s most important elements: Food—-more specifically, the Ramadan desserts!

If you have a sweet tooth, then you probably start getting incredibly intense cravings after a hearty meal with the family, with your only question post-Iftar being, “So, what’s for dessert?” And here, we obviously mean good, classic dessert and not the new innovative ones that are always exploding with Lotus biscuits and Nutella. In fact, you’ll probably crave one of the eight desserts listed below!

1- Basbousa Bel Eshta

via Twitter

Easily the best of the options, basbousa bel eshta is the perfect dessert. Why? Because while the basbousa quenches our craving for sweetness, the eshta soothes our palates and tummies in the process.

2- Kunafa Bel Eshta or Bel Mekasarat

via YouTube

Kunafa has its own audience, right? Some homes simply can’t go on in Ramadan without everyone having Kunafa for dessert (especially if it’s homemade). There’s just something about that shredded phyllo dough and how it melts in your mouth with the perfect syrup covering it.

3- Atayef

via Muhtwassak

The signature dish of the whole holy month definitely has a place on this list! However, there’s one mystery about atayef that we just can’t seem to crack: We have no idea why we don’t usually have them throughout the year.

Whether they’re filled with nuts or eshta, atayef complete Ramadan for us.

5- Om Ali

via Arab America

Many people aren’t Om Ali enthusiasts, and we have no idea why! Hot or cold, this specific dessert is the definition of warmth and perfectly placates our sweet tooth.

6- Aish El Saraya

via Mawdoo3

This dessert’s name literally translates to “bread of the palace”. Aish El Saraya is a sweet bread showered with orange syrup that tints the bread, making it look even more delicious than it already is. It’s also usually sprinkled with nuts on top.

7- Balah El Sham

via Just Food

For some odd reason, this dessert is also only popular in Ramadan. But this one, in particular, will have you licking your fingers after eating multiples of it because it is beyond tasty!

8- Khoshaf

via Cairo Cooking

A mix of dried fruit compote dunked in a sweet syrup, Khoshaf is essential to break your fast with—they’re almost as important as the dates. You can also have it after your Iftar, but keep in mind that it’s very sweet, and not everyone is a fan of it. But we guarantee you that it is amazing.
