Everyone craves snacking on junk food from time to time. Sometimes you go all in and end up paying way too much for just snacks, even when you know you shouldn’t. However, many local, wallet-friendly snack brands are the same quality as imported products, but cheaper; you just have to know which ones to choose!

Edita’s Bake Stix (2 LE)

A healthier option is Edita’s Bake Stix. At only 2 LE, those tiny baked sticks (especially the cheese flavoured one) are great with dips. We tried the Cheese flavour, which went perfectly with our dipping sauce since the taste did not overpower the sauce. There are four other flavours on offer: BBQ, Oriental Sausage, Cheese, Oriental Spices, and Salt N Pepper.

Fiji Salted Crackers (3 LE)

Another excellent small snack is Fiji Salted Crackers. They have a great selection of flavours: Salt, Cheese, Sour Cream and Onion, and lastly, Olives and Thyme. This snack is so airy, tasty and affordable – you can have it with breakfast with cheese or jam.

Double Stuffed Oreos (4 LE)

What is the best part of an Oreo? The icing in the middle, of course! Now, you can enjoy four double stuffed Oreos for just 4 LE – talk about a bargain. Stuffed with twice as much delicious Oreo cream, these chocolate sandwich cookies are totally dunkable in any hot beverage!

Tots Popcorn (6 LE)

Since we all miss the times when going to the cinema was a regular activity, having popcorn at home while binging on Netflix is the next best thing. If you’re craving popcorn, then Tots is here for you! Tots is a local packaged popcorn brand that is relatively affordable. Amongst various flavours, we decided to get the butter and salt (6 LE), and it tasted fresh and buttery, just as advertised.

Sour Punk (10 LE)

We all love that mix of sour and sugary, and Sour Punk is another brand that is within your means. Sour Punk rainbow candy sticks are a combination of sweet and sour flavours that will take your taste buds on a rollercoaster ride. For only 10 LE, you can satisfy your inner kid and enjoy a burst of different sweet and sour flavours at the same time.

Raw Kettle Cooked Potatoes (15 LE)

Salty and delicious, chips and all their derivatives just hit differently. As much as we all love to indulge in imported Lays and Cheetos, they’re not very economical. Raw has many flavours; salt, salt & vinegar, jalapeno, hickory-smoked, cheddar cheese, and sweet chilli. We tried the Hickory Smoked (15 LE), and it was the perfect combination of BBQ flavour and crunchy deliciousness. And what stands out in Raw is that their chips are cut thicker than the usual, which makes for a really satisfying flavourful crunch.

Lino Oat Rings (15 LE)

If you don’t want to feel too guilty, Lino, the famous oat brand, just hit us with a brand new sub-product. Lino Oat Rings; the fact that they are not fried makes it all the better. With tasty, unique flavours, such as American Cheese, Sour Cream and Onion, Shrimp, and Sriracha – Lino’s Oat Rings is definitely one snack to always keep in mind.

Mega Treats (15 LE)

Aside from the great flavours like Peanut Butter, Honeycomb, Coffee and Brownies, Mega’s new smaller sized sticks are wonderfully convenient. Mega’s ice-cream sticks, well, were always “mega”, but this new line is just the right size. They’re not too big and not too small, so you can enjoy more snacks without getting the inevitable sugar rush.

Tip: You can get the Mega Treats for only 5 LE if you purchase from Alfa Market.

Ice Bites (15 LE)

Now, can a brand have one product and succeed? Well, this is the case here. What is the best part of an ice-cream cone? The last bite! For only 15 LE, you can get a bag of bite-sized waffle cones filled with milk chocolate.

Poplay Popcorn (30 LE)

We have another popcorn brand for you, but this time, it’s gourmet and sweet. Get lost in rich and irresistible Poplay Popcorn Caramel flavours that will make you smile and feel good inside and out. Poplay has various gourmet flavours: Salted Caramel, Caramel and Almond, Caramel and Chocolate, and Caramel and Cinnamon, and you can tell it is quality popcorn from the first bite. Thumbs up for this one!

Floss Halva (38 LE)

One small bucket of this Syrian dessert is a bit pricey but totally worth it. You can add it to ice cream, any dessert, or just eat it as is. This Monofeya based brand, ElBalad, really did a great job with this one. You can really taste the quality sesame floss and pistachios, plus it stays fresh for a good while as long as you close the lid properly.
