Oh lord. It's Sunday and the weekend seems so, so afar. Nothing we can say will help you through another lap of the rat race, but like some kind of rose-scented ointment, we can help ease the itch with these five gigs.
DANNY MALAK & AWE @ CAIRO JAZZ CLUB (Sunday)
Kicking off the week with a double header of live music, Cairo Jazz Club welcomes one of several CJC debuts this month in the form of AWE. Led by one of Egypt's most versatile musicians, Adham Roshdy, expect plenty of energetic funk and blues from the three-man band on a night that will also see Danny Malak also perform.
AHMED HARFOUSH @ RIVERSIDE (Monday)
Cairo crooner, Ahmed Harfoush, doesn't perform in Egypt as much as he once did, which makes this gig all the more significant. But this particular Harfoush-hair-raiser will see the seasoned singer belt some Broadway numbers on the stage of the fittingly chic Riverside in Zamalek, adding his own jazzy twist.
ABSTRAKT VOL.27 @ ZIGZAG (Monday)
Having kicked off their new Season with a tasty line-up of locals in August, Abstrakt is returning to Downtown's Zigzag for volume 27 of its long-running series with more yummy treats, with Karim Sedrak, Zio and Junior, the latter of whom has been tearing things up, so to speak, over in Finland, where his stock has been rising.
The second of Cairo Jazz Club's debuts this week is unlike anything you'll see or hear this month, let alone this week. Still a relative unknown, Latēfall is set to take the CJC fathrful on an ambient musical journey using - wait for it - cassette tapes. Also performing on the night is the man that coined 'Egyptronica', Machine Eat Man.
BASEMENTALITY FT. DJ A.K. @ BASEMENT (Tuesday)
We round off our list with the beautiful simplicity of that wonderful thing called hip-hop. Basement's Tuesday nights have quickly become a favourite among Cairo's clubbing contingent and this week's dose of Basementality comes courtesy of the one and only A.K.
