We all have tons of clothes that we no longer wear, but can’t just accept the idea of giving them away. This is when the young Egyptian entrepreneur/artist Farah El Shawarby steps in with her clothes-recycling, magical brush strokes.

At the age of only 16, Farah started La Palette, a small non-profit business that turns old garments into wearable art. Denim jackets, jeans, sneakers, bags, you name it; Farah can revive almost any piece of clothing for you at an affordable price.

Her journey began when she was just a 4-year-old who started taking art classes, but La Palette was conceived from a coincidence. Farah had painted the bottom of her sneakers and posted a picture on Instagram, only to receive plenty of positive feedback from her friends. That’s when people started asking for her to paint on their own stuff, and little by little, her friends encouraged her to turn this into something bigger.

The artist’s initiative hones in on the importance of sustainability. It’s not just about raising awareness about the amount of waste caused by clothes and its negative impact on the environment, but also all the materials used by La Palette are eco-friendly. Even the packaging is 100% recyclable. Additionally, as Farah is incredibly concerned about single-use plastic consumption, she also offers hand-painted tote bags to help people cut down their plastic waste.
