The art of drama has so many objectives; be it to entertain an audience, inform them, or document a moment in history. But one of the main purposes is to reflect real-life stories. The characters we see on screen are usually realistic enough to resonate with; they might express something you’ve been personally feeling or going through and even inspire you with solutions. So, imagine if you got the opportunity to have your story told through a touching monologue from someone else’s perspective, would you be interested in that?

“Kalam Mat2alsh” is an initiative by a group of young and talented actors trying to get your feelings out there, as well as showing their talent. The initiative was inspired by an exercise they all took at the acting workshop by Luke and Ramsi Lehner where they all met. The exercise involved the actor sitting in front of an empty seat and having a heart-to-heart conversation they never had before, and that’s where the name also came from.

As an attempt to bring people closer together, the young talents invited everyone through their Facebook page, ElCanteen, to anonymously send their real-life stories, revolving around conversations they never had the guts to have. Surprisingly, they received an enormous amount of submissions from random strangers, and from there, they started turning these stories into monologues that will truly touch your hearts.

What about ElCanteen? Well, this is their Facebook page and platform where they’ll be presenting their brilliant work. “Whenever someone asks us about what we want in life the most, our answer is always ‘to act’. It then hit us, why don’t we just do it? If we love acting that much, what’s stopping us from doing it?” Wrote group member, Bassel Abozeid, as he explained the page’s idea and concept.
