From architecture and real estate to forming a circus group; what else could Fadi Sawires possibly have under his hat?

We had a quick chit-chat with Sawires to find out all about his circus family, and fun, vibrant journey. The architect, who also happens to be working in real estate, started his circus group four years ago simply by typing in a Facebook status. Some might have taken his desire to start a circus as a joke, but others believed in him and started tagging their friends who might show interest. And just like that, with a click of a button, Le Sanatorium came to life.

Le Sanatorium is a group of circus performers, flow artists, dancers, athletes, and actors from Egypt and all over the world. The troupe is best known for its focus on fire performances, and fusing fire with aerial acrobatics and cube performances. Their impressive shows will surely leave you with dropped jaws from all the magic and talent embedded within. Yet, if there’s one thing the not-so-traditional circus performances are missing on purpose, it’s the animal element. The troupe is super animal-friendly and wouldn’t harm or involve furry creatures in their acts whatsoever.

Performance art is widespread in Egypt; however, we don’t see groups like Le Sanatorium every day. Fadi told us how hard it is to run a circus group, especially in Egypt. That’s mainly caused by the lack of well-equipped practice areas; the group’s number one obstacle. On the other hand, the light-hearted founder said that running the group here enabled him to discover a whole lot of hidden gems, pointing to the beautiful talents and amazing places. When we asked him about how they’re viewed and the kind of feedback they receive, he was very content. Le Sanatorium never failed to leave neither its crowd nor its client anything but impressed. However, the group finds it annoying whenever they’re asked about involving animals in their acts, which is something they would never even consider.

Career shifting was something else we wanted to discuss with Fadi. However, he clarified that he kept his full-time job as an architect and that he still works in real estate as well. In fact, he told us how his architectural background comes in handy when designing the stage they perform on.

Performance art might have started as a hobby, due to his fascination with dance and circus shows as a kid, but his circus family is an integral part of his life now. So, having a full-time job doesn’t make his circus business any less. Fadi found his way to the dance and flow art communities at a young age, and he started taking classes himself. Soon after, he studied dancing professionally after graduating from university. And just like Fadi, most of the circus family have full-time jobs and, more or less, similar journeys.

Hopefully, the hard work will pay off for the entire group. Fadi sees a very bright future for Le Sanatorium, and hopes that one day they will have their own stage and practice space. He dreams that one day people from all around the world will visit their very own magical “sanatorium” a to attend their shows.

Meanwhile, keep an eye on Le Sanatorium’s Facebook page to stay up to date with any upcoming shows. Trust us; you don’t want to miss this!
