Having a sense of humour is definitely a blessing, but having the ability to make others die with laughter is a bigger one. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the astonishing stand-up comedian, Mohamed Salem.

Salem is an Alexandrian stand-up comic who got to learn the art, by pure coincidence, through one of his colleagues in the university. Salem’s ability to make others laugh, thanks to his spontaneous sarcasm and humorous way of telling stories, led his friend to praise his talent. He told him that what he’s doing is an art called stand-up comedy, advising him to watch videos of international artists, like Eddie Murphy and Dave Chapelle. This was when Salem felt that this was the career he wanted to pursue.

In 2007, Salem’s career took off and became one of the very first stand-up comedians in Egypt. He started by performing at small shows and cafès, at which the number of attendees did not exceed 50 or 60. However, he didn’t give up, and he considered these shows nothing but a training period for him. He looked at them as a means to communicate with the public and interact with them, which is, according to Salem, the most important characteristic of the art of stand-up comedy.
