It saddens us to say that Egyptian veteran director Samir Seif passed away on Monday, the 9th of December, at the age of 72, because of a sudden heart attack.

Seif was one of the most prominent filmmakers in the country. He presented highly distinguished works with megastars such as Adel Imam, Souad Hosni, Mohamed Sobhi, Ahmed Zaki, Nour El Sherif, and more.

The filmmaker’s life is paved with many achievements. So, in his legendary memory, here are six films we will never forget Samir Seif for.

#1 Da2ert El Entkam - 1976

Seif began his artistic career by directing Da2erat El Entkam, starring the late actor, Nour El Sherif. The film achieved great success at that time and was Seif’s breakthrough in the directing world.

Da2ert El Entkam also stars Mervat Amin, Shweikar, Youssef Shaaban, Ibrahim Kham, and Salah Kabil.

#2 El Mashbooh - 1981

Seif succeeded at getting the star, Adel Imam, out of the comedy arena as they ventured into El Mashbooh together. The film garnered massive success, and it’s definitely a must-watch for all cinephiles.

It’s also worth mentioning that Seif was not just the film director; he co-wrote the script with Ibrahim El Mogy.

El Mashbooh also stars Souad Hosni, Farouk El Fishawy, and Saeed Saleh.

#3 Ghareb Fi Beity - 1982

This film was Seif’s first-ever comedy directorial experience, and it was a great decision indeed. This film’s success lives on to this day, and it’s considered one of the most unforgettable Egyptian comedies. We mean, how can we ever forget Captain Shehata Abo Kaf?

Ghareb Fi Beity stars Nour El Sherif, Souad Hosni, Hassan Mostafa, Hayatem, Nabila El Sayed, and Wahid Seif.

#4 El Rakesa Wel Seyasy - 1990

This is one of the most influential films in the history of Egyptian cinema that sparked widespread controversy because of its bold story. Behind this masterpiece was the genius, Ihsan Abdel Koddos, who wrote the story. The screenplay, however, was written by Waheed Hamid.

El Rakesa Wel Seyasy stars Nabila Ebeid, Salah Kabil, Mostafa Metwally, Roshdi Al-Mahdi, and Farouk Falawks.

#5 El Shetana Alaty A7abatny - 1990

Samir Seif directed one of the most important comedies in the nineties that starred the superstar Mohamed Sobhi. During Seif’s interview with Mona El Shazly on her program on CBC Egypt, he stated that El Shetana Alaty A7abatany didn’t really achieve notable success. He clarified that the reason behind this is that this type of comedy was ahead of its time. Nowadays, however, everyone watches the film whenever it’s on TV.

#6 Ma3aly El Wazeer - 2002

This was the most daring film for Seif, as it explored the battlefield of ministers in the world of politics. Seif presented the financial and administrative corruption that occurred in the Egyptian ministries with a high degree of wisdom and courage.

Ma3aly El Wazeer stars Ahmed Zaki, Lebleba, Yousra, and Hisham Abdel Hamid. It’s worth mentioning that this film was the only cooperation between Ahmed Zaki and Samir Seif.

The last work for Samir Seif was the religious film, Augustinus Ben Demo3ha. The star-studded cast had a large group of artists from all over the Arab world. Those included Aisha bin Ahmed, Amin bin Saad, Imad bin Shandi, Bahia Al-Rashdi, Najla bin Abdullah, and Ali bin Nour. The film was written by Emad Dabour.

We send his family condolences and pray that his soul would rest in peace.
