It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Egypt’s innovative and beloved celebrity hairdresser, Mohamed Al Sagheer, due to complications related to COVID-19.

Al Sagheer, a member of the Haute Coiffure Francaise and Inter-Coiffure Mondiale, kickstarted his career as a hairdresser in 1960 working with some of the biggest names in the industry. The aspiring artist decided to travel to France to further his skills in 1971 under the guidance of distinguished mentor, Alexander de Paris. Al Sagheer returned to Cairo two years later and revolutionised the entire industry. He established himself as one of the first Haute Coiffeurs in the region, and in 1980, he opened his first salon in the Sheraton, Heliopolis.

The beloved hairdresser took the world by storm by challenging the traditional perceptive of a hairdresser and salon throughout his journey. He established a beauty empire, won several international awards, and became recognised as one of the “top 50” hairstylists worldwide, and one of the most prominent beauty experts and a leading name in the MENA region. He continued to inspire novelty in the artistry of hair and beauty, class and culture, and helped shape the future of hair salons in Egypt.

Throughout his 30-year career, Al Sagheer worked with the biggest celebrity names in the film and fashion industries, and transformed the lives of everyday humans just as fabulously! He was a companion and supporter to his clients, and today, stars from all over the Middle East and North Africa mourn the icon and talk of him being a great man and friend.

Al Sagheer will be sorely missed, but his achievements and impact will live on through his salons, students, and the industry he elevated as a whole.
