The pandemic has taken away our frequent outings with friends, our adventurous travels around the globe, and our regular daily lives. COVID-19 has stricken once again by being the reason for the postponing of the anticipated series starring Donia Samir Ghanem, which was scheduled to premiere on the 16th of Ramadan.

Aalam Mowazy (A Parallel World) is a comedy series that also stars Amr Wahba, Shaimaa Seif, and Ghanem’s own mother, Dalal Abdelaziz. The plotline follows an alternative reality in which the world is organised by good manners and deeds. Righteous people live in certain fancy parts of the city, while the sinful folks reside in much worse places. The mishaps begin when a girl finds herself in the good part of the city, despite her flawed personality. Yes, the story resembles that of The Good Place. Alam Mowazy was produced and directed by none other than Hesham Gamal, Ghanem’s long-time collaborator, who’s also a member of Boyband. This would be his first venture into directing.

Shooting started in January 2021, but production had to be halted due to the infection of numerous key personnel with the tragic COVID-19 virus. Ghanem, Abdelaziz, and Gamal have all been infected with the virus, along with Ghanem’s very own father, famed actor Samir Ghanem. Samir Ghanem and his wife are currently hospitalized due to deteriorating health conditions.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families.
