Whether you watched Breaking Bad or not, we all know it’s a timeless masterpiece! Consisting of five seasons, the show follows the narrative of Walter White, a low-paid, overqualified, and depressed high school chemistry teacher diagnosed with stage-three lung cancer.

Walter chooses the life of crime, collaborating with his former student Jesse Pinkman to produce and distribute crystal meth in order to provide his family with financial security before he dies. When we thought about the story of Breaking Bad, the closest we had to this plot in Egyptian works was El-Keif, done a long time ago! So, how about we imagine a modern Egyptianised version of Breaking Bad?

1-     Walter White (Karim Abdelaziz)

The good-man-gone-bad role of a lifetime that was Walter White (AKA Heisenberg) brought Bryan Cranston his well-deserved fame and fortune. And we couldn’t think of anyone more suitable than the versatile talent and beloved Egyptian icon Karim Abdelaziz. His unique range of drama and comedy qualifies him to take on the legendary Walter White mantle, as he struggles with depression, his lost potential, and a failing Egyptian economy. Karim could easily be the “one who knocks”, don’t you think?

2-     Jesse Pinkman (Adam El-Sharkawy)

Mr White wouldn’t be who he is without his sidekick and former student, Jesse Pinkman! Together, this duo had a unique bond and went through it all. Adam El-Sharkawy would be more than fitting as Jesse Pinkman, a lost young adult wanting to make a quick buck and ending up in a life of crime. You can see it too, right?

3-     Skyler White (Ghada Adel)

Skyler White is Walter’s middle-class wife who’s oblivious about her husband’s criminal side. Who is talented and versatile enough to play the role more than our very own Ghada Adel? We can see her effortlessly go from being loving and supportive to transforming completely once she discovers the truth about Walter’s actions and the catastrophic aftermath on her family. We believe Ghada has the dramatic range and experience to pull off this complex through all its ups and downs.

4-     Gustavo Fring (Bassel El-Khayat)

The iconic villain Gus Fringe will go down in TV history as one of the best antagonists and criminal masterminds of all time. We couldn’t think of a more befitting match than Bassel El Khayat, an experienced actor specialising in being the villain. Bassel has excelled in every villainous role he played, bringing depth and excitement to his characters. We would love to see our Syrian Joker give this one a go, and we are positive he would give it all he’s got!

5-     Saul Goodman (Fathy Abdelwahab)

Worthy of his own super-successful spinoff series, Saul Goodman is one of the best characters ever written for TV due to his wittiness, incredible sense of humour, and lawful lawlessness. He is the criminal lawyer of criminal lawyers. Who would play such a role better than our very own Fathy Abdelwahab? He is exceedingly qualified to play such a charismatic yet frowned upon character, bringing the house down with his comedic range and incredible acting.

6-     Jane Margolis (Jamila Awad)

Jane was fleeting yet a highly impactful character in Jesse’s life and character arc with a shocking finale towards her final moments. We think Jane would be perfectly portrayed by the beautiful young star, Jamila Awad. She has played troubled young women before and brought their trauma and struggles to life through her charisma and acting skills.
